Game overview
Romestead is a top-down action-adventure survival game for 1 to 8 players, currently available on PC via Steam Early Access. Set in a fallen Roman world overrun by the walking dead, it combines settlement building, combat, exploration, and co-op farming.
Gameplay
The world is procedurally generated and contains handcrafted dungeons, secrets, and multiple biomes. Core activities include:
- Exploring dungeons that range from short combat encounters to multi-room adventures with enemies and puzzles
- Gathering resources and constructing settlements with buildings such as blacksmiths, leatherworkers, farmsteads, and altars
- Recruiting survivor NPCs as artisans to enable crafting, farming, and production within your settlement
- Making offerings to Roman gods to restore their connection to the world and unlock technologies, buffs, and upgrades
- Fighting undead hordes that hunt players at night
- Defeating bosses to unlock the next crafting tier and progress into new biomes
In co-op, players can specialize across roles:
- Melee, ranged, or magic combat
- Farming and settlement management
- Crafting, building, and production automation
- Exploration and looting
World difficulty scales with the number of players. Solo players handle all roles themselves. Progression is biome-based, with each tier requiring new gear and boss defeats to advance.
Early Access
Romestead is currently in Steam Early Access. The game is playable in its current state but is not yet complete and may change during development.
