Game overview
MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls is a 2.5D tag team fighting game developed by Arc System Works and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, in collaboration with Marvel Games. The game launches on PlayStation 5 and PC on August 6, 2026. It features a roster of 20 Marvel characters at launch, rendered in an anime-inspired art style, competing in 4v4 team battles.
Combat system
Matches follow a best-of-five round format structured around a progressive tag mechanic. Players begin each match with a single fighter and unlock additional team members by meeting mid-match conditions such as damage accumulation and Wall Breaks, which also transition the fight across different sections of a stage.
- Each character has Light, Medium, and Heavy normal attacks, a character-specific Unique Attack, and a Quick Skill button for one-button special moves.
- A Skill Gauge enables EX attacks and, when fully charged, a cinematic Ultimate Skill. Multiple Ultimate Skills can be chained across the team via the Assemble Gauge.
- Off-screen characters can be called in as assists using the Assemble input combined with a directional input.
- Tōkon Assemble is a once-per-match all-out team attack, available only when certain gauge conditions are met and the player is on the verge of losing the next round.
- Active tag allows players to switch to another character in their lineup mid-match.
Game modes
- Episode Mode — a single-player story mode with original narrative content set in the Marvel Universe.
- Online multiplayer — casual and ranked modes with cross-play between PS5 and PC, and lobbies supporting up to 64 players.
- Local versus — two-player matches on a single system.
- Survivor Mode — a difficulty setting that removes the Turning Points rewind function.
Accessibility and controls
The game offers both traditional motion inputs and simplified quick inputs, along with easy chain combo options. A safe mode is available that prevents character death during stealth-adjacent sections while keeping other gameplay consequences intact.
