Telling Lies
Directed by Sam Barlow, a creative mind behind Her Story and Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, Telling Lies puts you in front of a laptop, in which stolen NSA footage will bring you closer to discovering the truth about a certain incident and people involved in it. Starring Logan Marshall-Green, Alexandra Shipp, Kerry Bishé, and Angela Sarafyan, this investigative thriller game is unlike anything you’ve played before. Will you be able to decide where the truth lies?
A mysterious laptop
Sit in front of a laptop and start unraveling the truth. Full of secretly recorded videos from intimate conversations and moments in the life of four people, this computer is your only source to search for clues. These strangers are linked by one shocking incident. Their individual stories will bring you closer to uncovering what really happened. Search through two years of footage and put the pieces together.
Gain access
The laptop lets you access various apps, settings, and data. The game focuses on playing videos capturing the lives of the characters. In order to progress in Telling Lies, you have to search keywords that will lead you to the next clue. These mechanics make the game non-linear, as your intuition and your puzzle-solving skills determine the order in which you view the video footage.
It gets personal
The four suspects recorded their footage using a phone or a computer camera, which creates the feeling of tangibility and realism. You can get the impression as if they were speaking directly to you, sharing their story with a friend. Moreover, as you progress in the game, the footage gets more personal and intimate, sometimes making it uncomfortable to watch because you feel like you’re violating their privacy. The feelings are intensified by the remarkable acting.
