The legend begins
Tomb Raider, sometimes referred to as Tomb Raider (2013), is an action-adventure game developed by Crystal Dynamics and published by Square Enix. It's a reboot of the famous action-adventure series; hence, it rewrites Lara Croft's background and allows players to follow the iconic character on her first epic adventure.
The first adventure
This game offers the intense origin story of Lara Croft. We meet her as a young and inexperienced archeologist embarking on her first expedition. Lara and her crewmates are searching for the lost kingdom of Yamatai, home to the mythical Sun Queen. Unfortunately, their ship is hit by a violent storm and splits in two. Croft survives the disaster but is separated from the others and washed ashore on an isolated island. She soon discovers that it is inhabited by a group of malevolent cultists. Players can follow her transformation from a frightened young woman to a hardened survivor and help her uncover the mystery behind the Sun Queen.
Combat and exploration
The combat system was overhauled for the 2013 reboot. Lara can use stealth to avoid and take down enemies or attack them with weapons such as bows, guns, and improvised explosives. As the game progresses, you will upgrade her arsenal, gain access to new types of ammunition, and unlock new skills. Exploration is another essential part of Tomb Raider's gameplay. The game features vast environments, including forests, mountains, waterways, underground tunnels, and ancient structures. All those places hide ancient artifacts and other collectibles, which make this journey even more thrilling. There are also optional tombs that players can discover.
Release date
Tomb Raider came out on PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 on March 5, 2013. In January 2014, the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions were released. More platforms, including Stadia, Linux, and Sield TV, followed later.
