CD Projekt Clarifies Single Expansion for Cyberpunk 2077 as a Technological Choice
The Technological Pivot: Transition to Unreal Engine
During an investor Q&A session, CD Projekt executive Michał Nowakowski stated, "As we communicated earlier, we have no plans for a second or third expansion. This sole expansion was determined without any relation to sales figures or our level of satisfaction."
The pivotal factor in this decision, as Nowakowski explained, was CD Projekt's transition from their proprietary in-house development platform, RedEngine, to the widely adopted Unreal Engine, developed by Epic Games.
"In all honesty, this decision is rooted in technology," Nowakowski revealed. "This marks the final chapter of our work on the RedEngine, at least for the foreseeable future, as we focus our efforts on the Unreal Engine from Epic. This pivotal shift significantly influenced our choice to pursue only this expansion."
Introducing "Phantom Liberty": A New Horizon
Named "Phantom Liberty," the expansion is scheduled for release on September 26th, available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. This expansion will introduce an array of new content, including weapons, cyberware, clothing, an expanded skill tree, an additional city district, numerous story quests, vehicular combat, and a raised level cap.
